Dr. Pamela Karner grew up in suburban New Jersey, dreaming of living on a farm and saving babysitting money to ride horses. This is actually true!
She graduated from Boston University with a degree in Biology and Chemistry in 1975. After a brief stint as a social worker, she came to Cornell to teach and to study Animal Breeding/Quantitative Genetics. It was during this time that she developed a love for the Finger Lakes Region.
Dr. Karner graduated with honors from the University of Pennsylvania School of Veterinary Medicine in 1984 and stayed on to work and study in an internship/residency position in their large animal ambulatory “Field Service”.
Newly married in 1986, she moved to a farm in Ithaca with her Australian, sheep farmer, husband. In the summer of 1986 Starland Veterinary Services was established with the goal of being a progressive, mixed large animal practice. She wanted to practice quality medicine and surgery and still raise a family! Through the years as the practice (and the family) have grown, this goal has remained.
Among her interests is a passion for endurance riding and vetting which she does in the United States and in Australia.
